In spite of the showers, the Corn Roast Festival was...

Hi- In spite of the showers, the Pacific University and Chamber of Commerce Corn Roast Festival was enjoyed by daughter and I. This event has been held by the University for 44 years. There is plenty to do at the roast. A couple of activities to mention are the fund raiser to build a bird house for $5.00, obstacle course for adults and kids, stage performances, walking the vendor kits, tossing the ball at the dunk tank, and the food line showed how good the food was.

My daughter is hoping to make it to the Corn Festival next year as well. I think that says a lot about this event.

When in Hillsboro, Ore. visit Chief Kno-Tah...

Hi- Along TV Hwy (8), Hillsboro, Ore., one can see the carved Native American man named Chief Kno-Tah. The 400 year old tree was carved by Peter "Wolf" Toth. Hillsboro Parks & Recreation installed this figure head September 25, 1987 at Shutes Park.





The name of Chief Kno-Tah is taken from the chief of the Tualitin tribe of Indians. He was the chief who agreed to the "land cessions" treaty granting the white man control of the Tualitin plains.





These photos that I have installed were taken at dusk. While the quaility of the photos maybe lacking, Chief Kno-Tah is a must see.

"Lets Take an Old Fashioned Walk"

Hi- When I was taking my walk the other day, I looked over to see this signage on a bench near the trail. I thought, what a great way to remember someone that has touched your life. One of the inscriptions that I saw that I liked said, "Lets take an old fashioned walk." Have you seen any dedications like this on your walk?

Historic sites to see at Champoeg State Park

Hi- Here are few photos of just a few things to do at Champoeg State Park outside of Butteville, Ore. Our timing was great as my daughter and I made it to the 1 o'clock tour of the Donald and Felicite Manson Farmstead. The Champoeg tour guide explained the processing of wheat to flour. The kids in the audience had the chance to do some "stomping" to get the grain off of the winter wheat. The history of the homestead and the Champoeg flood of 1861 were explained in detail.
On the original plat of the Champoeg Townsite sits the Pioneer Mothers Memorial Cabin. This log cabin museum is ran by the Daughters of the American Revolution. We walked through the room of the cabin to see artifacts of yester years. Outside the cabin is a place to use a bar of soap, washboard, to get clothes smelling clean. Also, do not forget to make a wish at the Wishing Well.

Step into Champoeg's 1860's Kitchen Garden Past

Hi- On Saturday, September 6, 2008, my daughter and I went to Champoeg State Park for the afternoon. It has been a few years back since I have been to the Champoeg Park as an adult. This was a great place to visit when going to middle school on one of those state history field trips.
Here is a piece of the Champoeg Visitor Center that I enjoyed. The Kitchen Garden sits between the center and the historic Manson barn. The garden is a replicate of what it is believed a kitchen garden looked like in the 1860's. If you are lucky, when in the gift shop, a free will offering goes for the fresh produce that the garden reaps.

"Lost And Found," Cemetery Markers

Hi- During my last visits to the Odd Fellows cemetery (I.O.O.F.), Estacada, Clackamas Co., Ore., there have been cemetery markers away from their cemetery homes. If you recognize these, or know of their "homes", please drop me a e-mail. Wouldn't you like to see these grave stones go back to their rightful families?

Be cautious, slow down, back to school time...

Hi- In turning into the radio this morning, besides the political issues, or hearing national weather updates, I was reminded to slow down at school speed designated areas. My daughter went back to school today, so be careful when approaching those school zones.
